What’s the point if trying to play music when this bullshit exists?

This actually personally offends me and everything I stand for. Call me a bitch or whatever idgaf!!

True life, I hate this too.

This just baffles me… I mean do we need tips on how to look “riot grrrl”? Really??

“Here are the products you need to be punk” - just blows my mind, not that I’m against make up at all, but this is just an advertisement.

Yeah exactly, like I love makeup/hair shit as much as anyone, but if AP asked me to talk about it I would beat them up for not asking about, oh I dunno, THE MUSIC???

not totally sure what riot grrrl means to her or the writer of this article, but the movement and all associated with it means something so deep and liberating to me that this kind of shit really hurts my personal feelings (not to even touch on what my feminist/musician side thinks about it). lol, cool, another dude centered music publication manages to take a movement so personal and angry and affective to so many people and reduces it to a pointless article about omgcutequirkygirlsontour and like vintagedocmartens. I don’t know much about mariel or her band so she may have completely different feelings on this, but what dom said, if someone asked me to reduce my idols and mentors into a fashion style and have it written up in a very seventeen magazine-esque style in a magazine that does nothing to showcase or further female empowerment in the alternative scene, i’d throw the fuck down.

here are the gifs that express what i cannot right now.

Yeah, pretty much. Also it shows how pointless those articles are, pointless and aspirational because Mariel’s style is obviously pretty low-maintenance, those products are probably pretty interchangeable/non-essential for her ‘look’. Those articles come from a long tradition of getting you to buy things you don’t need because someone you admire allegedly uses them. And this keeps women in this trap of buying more and more things just to look ‘normal’ even, and even someone who doesn’t have a particularly unusual ‘look’ is valued more for that than their actual music.

yes ^^^^^^^^^!
